Anne Blythe (née Shirley) is the daughter of Walter and Bertha Shirley, the wife of Gilbert Blythe, and the mother of Joyce, Jem, Walter, Di, Nan, Shirley and Rilla Blythe.


Early life

Anne Shirley was born on March 5, 1865 in the Yellow House in Bolingbroke, Nova Scotia, the only child of Walter and Bertha Shirley. For the first three months of her life, she had a happy life with her parents, but unfortunately, they succumbed to scarlet fever, leaving her an orphan. She was then taken in by Mrs. Thomas, a woman who had done housework at the Yellow House.
